That is the reason one why you should never host a community based project in github, maybe only as mirror to make it more accessible to public, but certainly not as main git repository, specially when there are open source solutions like gitea.

Why is it bad to belong to microsoft?

Microsft has a huge historic of buying companies and projects, like github itself that was an independent platform, and then proceed to enshitficate it. Recently a cybersecurity researcher had a scandal with microsoft because he reported a secutiry flaw with windows and not only he got terminated his appeal was ignored, so he released to the public in github and after that he got not only his github account terminated, but also his gitlab account (pay attention because gitlab isnt detached from microsoft as we think so).

Conclusion

So not only the proprietary platforms are safe because they can abitrarily close your account and harm the entire organization of a project, but they also actively use the code uploaded there to train their AI models in stolen code just so they can sell back to the public, as a tool for the dev or as propaganda in a way to reduce the value of a Dev’s work.
